Sometimes, it’s hard to imagine what life was like only a few months ago. In the dawning moments of 2020, most of us were stressed about simple things, like how we would fit all of our favorite social activities into one weekend or what we would do if a conference call forced us to miss our favorite hot yoga class.

Now, in the midst of a global pandemic, we are experiencing a whole new level of stress on a collective level.

At Long Island Beauty School, we’re feeling the effects of stress just like you are. Here are a few stress-busting tips that we thought might help:

Enjoy Yoga in Your Yard

If you have a patio, balcony or porch, get into your yoga gear and take your practice outside. The sunshine and fresh air will do wonders for your natural mood, and you may find that some of your neighbors will join you for a quick yoga session.

Schedule a Virtual Happy Hour

You may not be able to head to your favorite bar for a beer or go to brunch to enjoy that mimosa, but you can still sip your favorite cocktail with friends during the pandemic. Set up a happy hour on a conferencing app, and have fun, lighthearted conversations with your people.

Build a Puzzle

Working on a puzzle will provide you with the mental distraction you need, all while helping you exercise your brain during this trying time. You might find this activity to be surprisingly relaxing and satisfying.

Enroll in a Virtual Workout Program

Keeping up with your workouts at home will help boost those endorphins, and will allow you to naturally relax.

Cook a New Meal at Home

With extra time on your hands, now is the perfect time to hone those cooking skills. Since you can’t travel to a new place, consider choosing a location on your bucket list and making a meal from that destination. You will enjoy the process as well as the result!

Sometimes, the simplest activities will help you distract yourself from the current situation. Try to eliminate as many triggers as possible, and be strategic when you are consuming news and reports about the pandemic. Remember, this is a temporary situation, and there are people available to help you — from a safe, social distance.
