Long Island Beauty School ’s Curriculum
Our curriculum is designed for you to get the hands-on training you need to be a success in the field. In order for you to get your hair styling license, you must be able to demonstrate competency in the following areas:
- hair analysis
- hair cutting and coloring
- perming and straightening
- skin care
- basic chemistry
- salon management
Our courses are taught by industry professionals who are able to help you succeed in getting your license while also giving you a heads up on what employers are looking for in new graduates. However, having the skills alone is not enough to make your mark in this multi-billion dollar industry.
Preparing for the Job
The key to being a success in a field that depends on high customer service standards is learning how to put your client’s needs first. Long Island Beauty School provides you with plenty of opportunities to practice serving clients in a variety of real world working environments. Many of our students have participated in high end fashion events at department stores like Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s. Others have served as assistants on fashion photography shoots. Others are working their way up the success ladder at hair salons while they learn. These are prime opportunities to not only engage your industry knowledge, but to practice the fine art of customer service.
Before you are able to get a job, we prepare you for the skills you need to complete a job search as well as go out on interviews. You can expect ongoing workshops in resume building. Learn how to present your skills learned from past jobs and combine it with your new knowledge of the hair industry. We also support you with practicing your interview skills. Nervousness in the job interview process is expected. That is why we help you to learn how to communicate your strengths and the unique skills you bring to your potential employer. Finally, what you wear in your job interview speaks almost as loudly as what you say during your interview. Learn the do’s and don’ts of interview attire at one of our special workshops.
Many Long Island Beauty School students as well as graduates participate in advanced training sessions. What is so special about these sessions is that you can receive certification in techniques that are in demand in salons across the country. These sessions can include:
- hair weaving
- medical hair loss
- editorial styling
- advanced cut and color techniques
- corrective color techniques
- men’s contemporary cutting techniques
- bridal updo’s
- AND MORE!
Many of these sessions are between three and five hours long. Once the class is complete, you are able to use the skill immediately making you a more valuable employee anywhere you choose to work.
