Graduate Vivian Miranda Benitez
Long Island Beauty School – Spanish Instructor
Year of Graduation from LIBS – 2011
Q: Why did you choose a career in beauty?
To improve my quality of life. I worked as a waitress, as childcare giver, and as a housekeeper. The last job and the hardest was ironing and washing clothes in a dry cleaner. I saw the years passing by and I knew that I needed a change. I came to the school 3 times requesting information before I made the decision to start. It is one of the best decisions I have ever made. I didn’t know anything about the beauty industry, or how to hold a comb, but I learned.
Q: Where do you work now and what is your specialty?
Since 2016 I have been working as an Instructor for the Spanish Class in the same school that I graduated. I become a Makeup Artist in 2018 and a Master Educator in 2019. I love every single aspect of this career so I would like to specialize in everything if possible.
Q: What is the biggest benefit of your career choice?
The biggest benefit for me has been –as I mentioned before – the improvement of my quality of life, and of course, of my family. On May 2013, I opened my own salon (Fantasy Beauty Salon) and in 2018 I entered in a partnership with my best friend opening another shop (Glam Zone Beauty Salon).
Q: What is your favorite memory from LIBS?
My favorite memory was when I graduated without missing a single day and never arrived late during school. It isn’t easy when you work, take care of your family and study at the same time.
Q: Any advice for students, new graduates or people interested in a beauty career?
I am always trying to motivate and inspire my students, my community, and women of all ages, to study and commit to the beauty industry. It is a career with many advantages that has been built up around the improvements of the human pattern.
