Year of Graduation from LIBS – 2018
Q: Why did you choose a career in beauty?
I think it’s safe to say a career in beauty chose me because as far back as I can remember, I always made sure ALL of my dolls had their hair done. When my mom would get off work in the evenings before my bedtime I would faithfully get about an hour to “do her hair!” Before I was allowed to use heat or even scissors on dolls, I would style them up with the same barrettes my mom would use on me. As I grew older and was allowed to use heat/scissors the styling came naturally. While styling I would feel calm and carefree, able to just allow my creativity to flow into some beautiful end results.
Q: Where do you work now and what is your specialty?
As of right now, I’m not salon based. I’m a traveling hairstylist, which allows me to have a more flexible schedule. My specialty I would have to say is BRAIDING. I feel like it is one of the most effective ways to display your creativity.
Q: What is the biggest benefit of your career choice?
The BIGGEST benefit I would say is seeing the smile on clients’ faces after the work is done! Also being fully licensed has allowed me a wide range of opportunities that I never would have imagined from Stonybrook Children’s Prom to New York Fashion Week.
Q: What is your favorite memory from LIBS?
I enjoyed just attending the school. EVERY DAY there was always the anticipation of what we would learn next. Student exchange days were also fun as well.
Q: Any advice for students, new graduates or people interested in a beauty career?
Attending beauty school is essential because there are always things you think you know until you see a proper and more effective way to master them.
“When you do what you love it will never feel like work!”
