It’s probably safe to say that 2020 hasn’t looked like anyone thought it would when we were all clinking our glasses to it back on New Year’s Eve, 2019.
Still, we’ve made it this far, and for that, we deserve to celebrate (even if it’s just over Skype!).
As the end of the year nears, here are the trends we are expecting to see in 2021.
The Bright Glam Look
Bright colors are everywhere. Most styles incorporating a serious pop of color will focus on just one area: Either the eyes or the lips. Doing both can be a bit of overkill.
If you’re going for the eyes, consider using more than one color. The “watercolor” shadow look has delicate splashes of pigment being scattered on the lid in a haphazard pattern that extends out even as high as the eyebrows. Pair with this a neon or brightly pigmented eyeliner and mascara that will be sure to attract attention!
The Natural Skin and No (or Little) Makeup Look
The “no makeup” look certainly isn’t new, but actually not wearing makeup is.
The key to this natural trend is focusing on improving skincare so much that makeup is not needed. Instead of just covering up imperfections with thick foundation and concealer, an esthetician can help you find the right skincare routine to make your own skin flawless.
There are other opportunities to forego the need for makeup as well: Things like permanent eyeliner, eyebrow manicuring and microblading services, and eyelash extensions.
The 90s Grunge Simple Look
So, you like the idea of subdued makeup, but you can’t quite let go of that concealer and eyeshadow. That’s okay.
The 90s grunge simple look may be for you.
Back in the 90s, there were still some hangers-on from the 80s who reveled in blue eyeliner and bright coral lips. Other youngsters liked crimped hair, butterfly clips, and frosted eyeshadow. But many people were simultaneously entering another world — a world of dark lipsticks, kohl-rimmed eyes, and black choker necklaces.
This latter look is coming back in a major way. We’re seeing it on celebs like Kim Kardashian, Bella Hadid, and others. If you want to achieve it for yourself, think hair scrunchies, small-framed sunglasses, layered necklaces, hoop earrings, and of course, dark lipstick and thick eyeliner.
